Wellll,
I've been doing a poor job on this blog. I find that time just gets away from me or maybe I just don't have a very exciting life (for which I'm thankful ... lol).

Well school is out, obviously. The disappointing part is that we have just under 5 weeks until it starts back up! ARGH! Anyway, we will hopefully have some changes in our middle school special ed (sped). department. We are receiving a huge chunk of "stimulus money" for our district. And I do mean HUGE. So we are in the process of ordering new furniture, cabinets, bookcases. etc for our classroom. Now, if we could just send some of that in to teacher salaries.....ahhhh! O.k. back to reality.... in short it means (if our plans are approved) that sped will be getting all new stuff and passing our old stuff on to the general ed teachers. It is almost always the opposite of this. We usually get stuck with the old stuff. Now all this could still be a dream if our plans don't get approved but our school district is very blessed and our 8 sped teachers have pretty much everything that we could want so as my boss likes to point out... what else are we going to spend it on? So we'll see how that turns out.

Well, onto summer activities. We just finished a camping trip with the family at my favorite place, Buffalo National River. We had a blast. My little pixie swam and built sandcastles to her little heart's contentment. Of course she was ready to go back as soon as we got home. She also got her first "boyfriend". The camp ground host just loves her to death and so they became boyfriend/girlfriend. He even came up with a little friendship ring from somewhere. It was so cute. She wouldn't be anyone else girlfriend because Mr. Louis had told her not to. She would look at someone and say "I don't think so". Too funny!

We spent about a week down there and had a great time. The river was warm (almost too warm). We didn't go on the annual float trip though. The day that it was scheduled for the temperature was supposed to be around 100 and my little pixie is so warm natured anyway that I was afraid she would get overheated. Not to mention that it is extremely difficult to keep a very active 2 and 1/2 year old confined to a canoe for several hours. If we had gone it probably would have turned into an overnight float with all the stopping "to stretch our legs" that we would have had to do. Nonetheless, my pixie had a great time letting the fish "kiss" her legs and throwing rocks in the river.

So what's next? Well, not a lot on the schedule for the next 5 weeks. I have a workshop to attend this Friday (yeah.... work in the summer). And I believe that we have a photo shoot scheduled in a week or so and that's pretty much it at this point. I know I have a ton of things around the house that need to get done so we'll see if that actually happens.

I hope that everyone is doing well and is having a great summer. Remember that no matter what God loves you!

The silence goes on...

and on and on. To my knowledge, I've never had laryngitis before at least not for more than a few hours to overnight. I did go to the doctor this morning and he told me that it was just plain old laryngitis. I explained that next week was our Statewide testing and that it was important that I be able to speak starting Monday. He basically said quit talking and then gave me a shot and said that hopefully my voice would be back by Monday morning. Yesterday afternoon was really bad. I could barely speak above a whisper. This evening has been better but I'm still trying to rest my voice as much as possible.

My little Pixie went to bed very easily tonight. I think maybe we are settling into a new routine..... finally. We sit on the couch at about 7 and then she has to turn over by 8 and if all goes well she's asleep by 8:30 or 9. Tonight she was asleep by 8:15! Yeah, for mom!

As I stated, Statewide testing is next week so please help me pray that my voice comes back before Monday. Everyone have a great Easter weekend!!!

Beautiful Day

It was an amazing day today. The weather was warm and it felt good to be outside for awhile. I am sooo ready for spring to be here. Warm weather makes me look forward to spring/summer camping trips. Hopefully, I'll be able to find me a camper before summer starts!

Today was great but I've had some "voice" issues today. I woke up this morning to find that my voice has decided to have a mind of its own. It has decided that it wants to be silent ( or close to that) at certain points today. No sore throat or anything like that just tired and kind of "squeaky" sounding. My Pixie didn't notice until after I got home this afternoon and then she thought it was funny. She did say.... "Oh baby, you have to be careful". I love the way she says this. It is just too cute!

Dad and I took Pixie to the circus last Friday night. She loved it. I think she must have circus blood in her because once the music started she just had to MOVE! She danced, twisted, and jumped for a long time. She also made a friend while there. Another little girl who was about her size but several years older. They had to hold hands and dance together. It was so cute.

We made it through winter without any more days missed at school and we got to keep our Spring Break. The drawback is that we have had to add a day at the end and we have to go three Saturdays to make up for the days we've missed. We are also having to make up our scheduled inservice hours after school. This had made for some pretty long weeks!

It is my busy time of year. From about the first of April to the end of May I am holding meeting after meeting to do annual reviews of all my students' yearly progress. My first one this year was set for today. To complicate matters more, we have just installed a new software program for all of our paperwork. Once we learn how to use it, I think we will like it. It is a total opposite of what we've been using but once we learn it we should move through our paperwork faster!

Well, I was headed to bed before I started this post so I think I'll go do that now. I hope everyone has a great Easter weekend! Remember the real reason we celebrate Easter! Jesus died so that we could all have eternal life. Thank You Lord for loving me enough to take my place on that cross!

02/06/09

Wow! I really thought I'd be better at posting than this. Of course I do have a small excuse known as a MAJOR ice storm! On the last Monday in Jan. we got pounded with a huge ice storm here in our part of the world. We were without power from early Tuesday morning until late Friday afternoon. There are still hundreds without power and some people have been told it could be the last of March before their power will be restored. We were very blessed. We were only without electric for a few days and we had no damage to our house. We did have several tress that lost limbs and some that lost their tops. All of that can be cleaned up with time. We are just praising God that we had no damage to any buildings or vehicles.

Needless to say school was out for several days. We had a 4 day work week this week (it seemed like more). We are now looking at the possibility of losing our spring break. If that happens we will have a long spring semester. The worst part is that we are not out of the woods when it comes to missing days due to winter weather. We get some of our biggest snows in Feb. or March. Hopefully, if it decided to snow it will start on a Friday afternoon and be melted by Monday morning.

My little Pixie did a wonderful job of surviving the ice storm. She wasn't too sure why the T.V. was "broke" and she couldn't watch her movies. I think she did an exceptional job considering she's only two and her world had been turned upside down. Thankfully, she's an early to bed person anyway so it didn't really bother her that she had to go to bed when it got dark. She really enjoyed the part of getting to "stay" and Pa and Nana's. That was like a dream come true.

I just want to take a moment and say "thank you" to God... our Healer... for touching baby Harper. As of yesterday Harper is at home now and doing well. I know that Kelly (from Kelly's Korner) and Scott are thrilled to finally be home with their bundle of joy!

Until next time..... remember God is good.... all the time!

First Post

Hello Everyone,

Well, I've finally made it to the blog world. Now, knowing how horrible I am at keeping things updated I make no promises concerning this blog.

So where do I start....
As you can read from the description I'm a single, adoptive, mom. I had the awesome blessing of adopting a precious baby girl a little over two years ago. She is such a joy and the light of my life. I've been told several times over that she is blessed to have me as a mom. The reality is that I'm the one who received the biggest blessing. She has filled my heart with an overwhelming love, my life with such happiness, and my mind with the ability to think of someone other than myself. I knew through the whole process that God had his hand in everything. But I'm still reminded, on occasion, how much God works things out. People who don't know that she's adopted are always saying how much "she looks like her momma". Now, I wouldn't care if she looked like me or not but the fact that she does is just like God putting icing on the cake.

The most important person in my life is laying in her "big girl" bed talking to herself in an effort to stay awake. She is so much fun! At a little over two, she thinks she is ten! I recently had one of those moments you often dream of before becoming a mom. I've always wanted to come home from work and have her yell Momma! and run to me throwing her arms around me. Well, this past Monday she did exactly that! It was wonderful!!! Now I know that she is always glad to see me but this was just extra special. Yesterday, she looked at her Pa while eating lunch and said "Do you know my momma loves me?" It was so sweet! I'm just amazed by how quickly she is growing up.

You can also see, in the description, that I'm a teacher. I've taught for over 10 years ... please don't point out my typo's!. I'm not perfect and most of my posts will be done at night after a long day at work and I promise that I will make a mistake or two. My job consists of teaching, paperwork, paperwork, and more paperwork. I work in a school that practices inclusion so I actually get to go to the regular education classrooms and work with the students in that setting. It took some getting used to since I had done a pull-out program for 8 years before starting at this school but now things have settled into a routine and I'm really enjoying it.

Work....
is as always rewarding and very busy. I teach 5th and 6th grade resource classes. I love my job even though sometimes it is way too hectic! I still can't believe that the 08-09 school year is almost over. The kids are ready for spring break and the teachers are too! We are expecting to have some ice in our area in a day or two so maybe we will get a short break.

Life in general....
I just graduated with my Master's in Special Education in Dec. Boy, am I glad that's over! It really wasn't that hard but it sure was time consuming. I'm really glad that I did it though. I actually think that it was easier since I had already taught special education for 8 years before beginning my Master's program.

World view....
As we start a new year with a new president I'm just praying that God will lead and guide all of our leaders from the local to the federal level. It is always comforting to know that God remains in the "ultimate" control no matter who is in office. I'm also praying that this time of "economic hardship" will help to remind us to look to God for the meeting of all our needs.

One last thing...
Please remember baby Harper in your prayers. Her mom is the author of Kelly's Korner here on blogger. Harper continues to improve on a daily basis and for that we give God all the praise and glory!
